about

“I feel something.”

I look up to the sky and witness a pure, vibrant blue sky blanketed with altocumulus clouds. I feel my Grandmother’s presence. A segment of the cloud cover begins to swirl above me like the flow of cream in hot coffee. I close my eyes for a moment, opening them to find my Grandmother standing before me.

I feel a tremendous sense of warmth and calm as the sunlight increases in its majesty. My Grandmother has longer hair - black and wavy; not quite shoulder length. She appears to be within her 40s. She tells me something and is then joined by a twin of herself.

Her twin has shorter hair that has been curled. She is wearing thick-rimmed glasses from the early 1980s, while the first twin wears no glasses. Although both are my Grandmother, the first is warm and wearing a loose but well tailored dress of red - she is all spirit and emotion. The second wears a sharp suit of black, in a Japanese design - she is pure precision and logic; although still warm and familiar.

Both of my Grandmothers then lead me along an ancient cobbled path, thoroughly polished by time and footfall. The path leads to a beautiful temple that is surrounded by lush trees, of which through golden sunlight is screened and glitters to the ground below. Its design and stonework resemble that of a Frank Lloyd Wright building, although its essence feels as if it has been generated from within my Grandmother’s being.

The second twin of my Grandmother is to my left, and to my right is the first, younger twin. I am perfectly lucid now, but it feels much different to any lucid moment that I have experienced before. This is a sacred moment.

The two twins of my Grandmother take me within their temple, escorting me down a set of wide, slightly polished stone stairs. They leave me to kneel before the centre of a symmetrical, stone altar that fills the majority of the room - a slab that is floating a measure above the ground. The altar is darker in hue than the surrounding stonework. Subtly shimmering beams of sunlight pass through a set of high, thin windows that span the lip of the ceiling to my left and right.

Before me on the altar floats a display of forms in black and red. They appear as finely arranged smoke drifting just above the surface of the stone; slowly curling and dancing in smooth rectangular currents. As I witness the soft river of vapours, I am overcome by a gentle knowing that the display before me is of deep significance, and that my Grandmother is delivering to me a gift of great import that I must hold forever within; and of which I must allow myself to be guided.
